Kathleen Airdrie
A freelance writer/photographer for many years, Kathleen Airdrie's work appeared in Early Canadian Life and Seasons, the monthly publication of Ontario Naturalists, as well as North Frontenac News and Record News.
During five years’ employment with a community newspaper, she worked at production, proofreading, and editing. Her articles and photographs covering a wide variety of topics were regular features in its weekly editions, and in special commemorative editions with emphasis on local histories and personal profiles.
Feature Writer, Topic Editor of Theatre History and Musical Theatre at Suite 101, Kathleen is interested in all aspects of her topics, particularly the stories behind the growth of theatre despite political and religious interference and current stage productions. With thorough research, she discovers and relates little known or forgotten facts about the beginnings of theatre from ancient times to colonial periods and into the modern age, and highlights facts about the evolution of theatre and the people involved.
Kathleen assisted in development of a service that provides practical assistance and counselling for victims of domestic violence in a semi-rural area, and worked for many years in all aspects of the service provision, as staff member and volunteer. An honoured volunteer with several community organizations, Kathleen is now quite involved in discussions and peaceful actions pertaining to Canadian politics.
Of great concern to Kathleen is the environmental destruction created by oil production. She has articles that describe damage to wildlife, the eco system, and the lives of First Nations people in places such as Wood Buffalo National Park, the Athabasca, and Gulf of Mexico.
Of special interest is her garden, which is a source of inspiration for some of her writing, as well as her place of exercise and peace. She presents many articles about plants and landscaping together with photographs here on Suite.
